Kayla Bauer!

Kayla Bauer took a gap between her undergrad and grad school which I found interesting because it shows it’s never too late to continue your education. The first project she discussed was Isn’t It Cute which she described as a celebration of anything cute and pink. This shows her personality and style as an artist with cutesy pink influences present throughout most of her work. Her work is heavily influenced by Japanese pop culture. For her grad school projects, she wanted to go to Japan however, she did not have the means to at the time so decided to go to San Francisco because of its Japanese American population. Where she utilized walking as an art practice walking 10-12 miles a day and taking photos of the surrounding area. This habitual process is a good way of being consistent in your creativity, something I struggle with. She also used painting and other creative outlets to relieve pressure on your main artistic projects. I enjoy her combining her passions (photography, pink, anime/manga, and writing) to create her exhibitions and works. Finally, when I walked in the first thing I thought was “Ooo nice jacket”.
